Portfolios
- HERE'S MY NEWEST IDEA!!!! It occurred to me that many administrators
would like to look at your portfolio before they called you in for an
interview. I know of some people that went to the trouble to send their
portfolio to prospective employers, and hope it always came back. This
was such a big hassle...most administrators wouldn't ask for it because
of the hassle involved. So I turned my portfolio into a website! I now
have a line in my letter of application towards the end that reads "
...and please feel free to look at my online portfolio at
http://www.rustfamily.org/kimberly."
Now potential employers can look up my portfolio on the internet! Please
feel free to take a look yourself, and let me know what you think! Maybe
I could help you do the same! --KR
- I kept a folder in my classroom all year titled "Portfolio
Additions." When a student would give me a card for the holidays
or write something nice about me in their writing assignments,
I would add it to this folder. That way I wasn't digging at the
end of the year trying to remember the nice things that had happened
and I could easily add these things to my portfolio. --KR
- Everyone has a different idea of what belongs in a portfolio.
I'm still a relatively new teacher, so my portfolio will be vastly
different from a veteran's. When you're starting one, it can be hard to decide what to start with!
Here's what I have in mine:
In the very front I have my resume, copies of my teaching certificates
and my math degree. After that, I have:
- philosophies--educational, classroom management, and reading &
writing philosophies I wrote in college.
- teaching experience--letters of rec from admin, nice letters from
students, sample assignments from class, evaluations by administration...
- college--list of pertinent classes taken, diagnostic evaluations
from student teaching, my final transcript, and letters of
recommendation from professors...
- high school(when I was a student)--summary of activities & awards, letters of recommendation
from teachers, diploma, transcripts...
- hobbies--samples of poetry, writing ability, web page design...
- personal data--a few snapshots of my family...
(If some of you vets have different things, I'd love to
hear from you!) --KR
